Self-locking external retaining rings can be installed on a shaft that has not had a groove machined into it. Self-locking rings with no lug holes are impossible to remove without either destroying the ring or warping it out of specified tolerances. These rings feature an outer rim with a series of prongs protruding into the center. The ends create interference with the shaft when the rings is installed and a load is introduced to the other side. The outer rim of the TX series is curved which affords greater thrust load capacity and is easier to orient for assembly than the TY Series.
