The externally used radial retaining ring that enjoys widespread popularity is the "E"-style ring. Characterised by its E-like shape, this ring has three prongs that fit securely into the groove's base, thereby creating a sturdy retaining shoulder. The "S" suffix indicates the rings are stacked on top of one another, using automated equipment, and taped in that position. The resulting cartridges can be used to feed automated assembly equipment for easier, more efficient installation of the rings.
