Spring pins are very economical and universally used shear type fasteners. These rugged self-locking pins will meet thousands of demanding industrial applications. They are an excellent choice when a non-precision, hollow, self-locking fastener is acceptable. Common uses include: dowels, spacers, stop pins and hinge pins.
Tubular slotted spring pins are manufactured by progressive roll forming flat strips of high carbon steel or heat treatable 420 stainless steel. After forming, the pins are deburred to remove sharp edges, then heat treated to a spring temper. High carbon (1070-1095) steel spring pins are hardened to Rc 46-53 and 420 stainless steel spring pins are hardened to Rc 43-52.
Standard spring pins are manufactured to ASME B18.8.2. Standard finishes are high carbon, either light oil or zinc and are passivated. Special spring pins can be manufactured to customer specifications.
